23 year-old Akwesasne, Ontario golfer Victoria Thompson finished in a tie for 15th place in a SunCoast Series Tournament held at Falcon’s Fire Golf Club in Orlando, Florida on Thursday, April 7th. The 54-hole professional tournament was the first for Thompson who is planning to play the LPGA Futures Tour and CN Canadian Women’s Tour this year. She has been preparing for her professional debut by working with her golf coach, former LPGA Tour winner Charlotta Sorenstam, the sister of Hall of Fame golfer Annika Sorenstam.
The two-time Ottawa Citizen Amateur Champion posted rounds of 73,80, and 74 to share 15th spot with two other Canadians, Stephanie Simich of Mississauga, Ontario and Kristin Berretta of Pointe-Claire, Quebec. They all finished out of the money with only the top six finishers being paid in the twenty-seven player field.
The winner was Nicole Hage who blitzed the field with rounds of 66, 70, and 68 to shoot 12 under par and beat out the second place finisher by an impressive nine shots.
