A Tight Race at PGA of Canada Ottawa Zone Championship

PGA of Canada Ottawa Zone Golf Professionals tipped the ball up at the Rockland Golf Club (previously known as the Outaouais GC) on Tuesday, August 29th on the first day of their two-day Zone Championship on the Flagstick.com Player’s Tour. The Zone Championship is being sponsored this year by TaylorMade Golf Canada.

Former winners entered in their 2017 zone championship are defending champion Dave McDonald who is looking for a third consecutive win; 6-time zone champion Graham Gunn; 4-time zone champion Chris Barber; 3-time zone champion Bob Flaro and single time champions Michael Dagenais, Chris Learmonth and Lee Curry.

Leading the field at the conclusion of first round play with scores of even par is Jeff Gunn (White Sands), Jean Leduc (Hautes Plaines) and J. C. Beecroft (Royal Ottawa). One stroke back and tied for 4th place with scores of 73 are Chris Bernard (Callaway Golf), Matt Peterson (Hylands), Graham Gunn (White Sands) and defending two-time champion Dave McDonald (Carleton).

Even though the Zone held their senior championship earlier this year, senior professionals are playing in their own division of the Zone Championship for their own pool of prizes.

Heading into day 2 of the competition, Cedarhill’s Greg White leads the way with his score of even par 72. Mississippi’s Terry Kolar is one stroke back at 73 and Sand Point’s Steve Hall, who is the 2017 Senior Zone Champion, follows in third place with his score of 3 over par 75.

It promises to be an exciting day on Wednesday at the Rockland Golf Club.

With the talent these PGA of Canada Ottawa Zone professionals possess, scores should be even lower than today and no lead is safe. Only time will tell who will be having their picture taken with the PGA of Canada Ottawa Zone Championship Trophy.
