It took some extra math on Tuesday,May 17th but eventually the three players qualifying from the Golf Quebec Spring Open Qualifier at the Tecumseh Golf Club in Gatineau, Quebec was decided.
While Rivermead Golf Club members Marc-Andre Cloutier (70) and Nikolai Tolstoy (72) sat comfortably in the clubhouse knowing that their spots in the Spring Open were assured, the fate of fellow amateurs was left to retrogression.
From the group of Greg Holmes (Ottawa Hunt), Jason Allen (Renfrew GC) and Christopher Bockstael (Ottawa Hunt), who all shot 73, it was Bockstael who prevailed to earn a guaranteed spot. Allen, Prevost and Vaillancourt will be alternates for the Spring Open. It looks like Holmes declined his alternate position.
We are investigating as to why retrogression was used to determine the 3rd qualifier, the entry information indicted that ties would be broken via a sudden-death playoff. We will pass on any updates on that situation as it becomes available. (We are told it was a decision made by a tournament director re: retrogression and that a ladies league heading out on the course might have made it impossible to have a playoff taking place.)
The Golf Quebec Spring Open will take place on May 27th at Beaconsfield GC in Point Claire, Quebec.
Thirty-six players were in the field Tuesday with thirty-three players completing play.
