Tunis On Tap

The 62nd edition of the Alexander of Tunis Championship, now presented by BPG Buying Group, starts play today, July 3rd at the Ottawa Hunt & Golf Club.

The champion will be crowned on Monday, July 4th.

There will be no repeat winner this year as the 2010 champion, Philippe-André Bannon, turned pro over the winter but plenty of talented players will be happy to get their hands on the trophy.

The tournament is the first in the Triple Crown of Golf Quebec Championships that determine the provincial team.

Tee times start at 10:00 a.m. with the final group hitting the course at 2:03 p.m. After round one the field will be cut to the lowest 70 players who will complete play on Monday.

Among the top players competing from the Ottawa-Gatineau region will be OVGA Match Play winner Jeff Crowe of Camelot along with his Quebec Mid-Amateur Teammate, Dwight Reinhart of Renfrew.

Also look for a strong performance by multiple-time Ottawa City & District Champion Allen McGee (Arnprior GC) who has been close in the past but has yet to put his name on the historic Tunis title.

Flagstick staff will be on hand Monday for the conclusion of the tournament and will provide a full report.
