Victoria Not Exactly Welcoming For Ottawa Area Pros

One of the Canada’s most popular tourist stops did not play nice with a couple Ottawa-area golf pros on Thursday.

While Canadian Tour rookie Kyle Kallen shot into the lead with a 64 in the 1st round of the Times Colonist Island Savings Open, Lee Curry (Kemptville) and Brad Fritsch (Manotick) were seeing a different side of the golf course.

Curry made his way around the Uplands GC layout in 76 strokes while Fritsch fired an uncharacteristic 80 on the par 70 layout.  Both will need low rounds on Friday to make it to the final two rounds of play.

Another Eastern Ontario pro, tour rookie Brad Revell, had a much better day.  The 23 year-old shot a 69, 1 under par, in his first round as an official tour member after earning his way on to the circuit at Q-School last week.  The under par round also means Revell will be making his first $20 donation to the Southeastern Ontario Cancer Centre in honour of his brother, Craig. See that story on our Editor’s Desk Blog.

Ottawa-born Scott Hawley also had a solid round on Thursday, with an even par score of 70 that puts him into a share of 30th place.
