Victoriaville – Fenergic Canada Cup Announces Purse Increase For 11th Edition

Etienne Papineau, 2023 Canada Cup winner

The Victoriaville Golf Club has announced details of the 11th edition of the Victoriaville – Fenergic Canada Cup, presented by Le Groupe Anderson, Victoriaville & Co, and The Laquerre Group. The club will host the event from August 15 to 18, 2024 at the Quebec golf club, and there will be a number of enhancements for 2024.

A field of 130 top pros from around Canada and beyond are expected to play for the title, as well as around twenty amateurs – all with the logistical support of the PGA of Quebec and Golf Québec

Sponsor Fenergic has sweetened the pot to a tune of $15,000 more this season, bringing the overall purse from $125,000 to $140,000. The champion will receive $35,000, up from the previous first-place prize of $25,000.

The purse will not be deeper for those who make the cut as rounds three and four will feature the top 60 players plus ties after 36 holes; the cut formerly fell on the top 70 and ties.

During tournament week, activities surrounding the event will include the Provincial Championship for the Golf Canada Junior Skills Challenge. The four best golfers in eight categories, between 7 and 15 years old, will compete for the title of provincial champion.

The defending champion – Étienne Papineau, will not be on hand to defend the title. He is occupied playing the Korn Ferry Tour, but he still fondly recalls his two wins at the event – one as an amateur in 2019 and last year as a professional.

“My time at the Victoriaville – Fenergic Canada Cup last year was a great experience. Winning the tournament in front of my family and friends was a great moment. I wish everyone good luck and have a great week,” said Papineau.

The 2024 tournament is expected draw a star-studded field that includes mutliple talents from Quebec. The likes of Marc-Olivier Plasse, who just played in the RBC Canadian Open, as well as Yohann Benson, the recent winner of the PGA Championship of Canada, are set to take part.

The four rounds of the competition will be preceded by the traditional pro-ams on Tuesday August 13 and Wednesday August 14, presented by a new partner, Machinage Piché. Amateurs can sign up to play a round with a professional on the event’s website.

A portion of the profits from the Pro-ams will be donated to Opération Enfant- Soleil as well as to the Program of Excellence of the Victoriaville Golf Club.
