After an opening round of 73 (+1) that left her languishing near the cut-line Brooke Henderson (Smiths Falls, Ontario) responded with a two under par round of 70 (-2) on Friday to move on to the weekend at the LPGA Kia Classic.
Henderson pushed her way up the leaderboard from a share of 56th place all the way to a tie for 29th at the beautiful but tricky Aviara Golf Club in Carlsbad, California.
By moving on to the weekend she mainatins her chances of extending her top-ten streak. She has finished in the top ten in the last four LPGA Tournaments and came into the Kia Classic in 6th place on the tour’s year-long points list and 8th on the Rolex World Rankings.
Henderson will be the sole Canadian at the event for the final 36 holes. Maude-Aimee Leblanc (75-73) and Alena Sharp (77-73) both missed the cut. SooBin Kim, who plays under the Korean flag but was raised in Canada, also missed the cut.
Brooke will be paired with Karrie Webb for the 3rd round. They tee off at 11:10 a.m. local time.
Jenny Shin of Korea leads at ten under par.
