Weekend Report – PGA TOUR,NGA, PGA TOUR Canada

With four holes to play on Thursday afternoon Brad Fritsch had a four foot putt to reach 7 under par at the PGA TOUR’s Zurich Classic.  Unfortunately he missed that putt and by the time he signed his scorecard he had given up four more strokes to par.  An even par, 72, the next day left him at -2 total, one short of the score he needed to play the weekend.

The missed cut was just Brad’s 4th of the year and did allow him some much needed home time with family including new son, Jesse, who was born the week of the Tampa Bay Championship about 6 weeks ago.

Brad will be back in action this week in Charlotte, North Carolina at the Well Fargo Championship.  Fellow Canadians Mike Weir, David Hearn, and Stephen Ames are also in the field.

Hearn was the top finisher among the Canadians at the Zurich Classic. He tied for 21st.

The NGA TOUR was in Seneca, South Carolina this week playing the brutally tough Mountain Lakes Classic at Cross Creek Plantation.  It took a score of just -4 through 54 holes to win the tournament.

The top Canadians were Marc-Etienne Bussieres of Gatineau, QC, and Will Mitchell of Whitby, Ontario.  Both players shot +5 to tie for 27th place.  Each picke up $,460.00 (USD) for their efforts.  That pushes Bussieres to over $20,000 in earning on the tour after just four events of the PRO Series.

Rebecca Lee-Bentham was the low Canadian at the LPGA Tour’s North Texas Shootout.  The Toronto, Ontario golfer finished is a share of 28th place after rounds of 72, 68, 73, 69 (282). She earned $9,448.00.  It was her second top 30 finish of the year.

The PGA TOUR Canada will be hosting a press conference on Monday in London, Ontario at the Sunningdale G&CC.  It is anticipated that the TOUR will announce the club as the host site for their TOUR Championship, adding a 9th event to their 2013 schedule.
