Ian Poulter took his flashy style down under and came up with a win at the JBWere Australian Masters.  Not only does he get another significant victory but he gets to add an Australian Masters Gold Jacket to his wardrobe.

Poulter shot 67 in the final round in windy conditions to close at 15 under par.  That gave him a three stroke victory over Marcus Fraser.  World #1 ranked player Luke Donald tied for 12th place at 4 under par.

Lee Westwood added to the weekend wins by Englishman in taking the title at the inaugural Thailand Golf Championship.  Westwood jetted off the start line by firing 60 and 64 in the opening rounds.  He eventually cruised to a seven stroke victory over Charl Schwartzel.  The 38 year-old Westwood had a four stroke overnight lead heading into the final round and simply grew it with a closing 69.

As a result of the win, his fourth of 2011, Westwood moved to #2 in the Official World Golf Rankings when it is was updated Monday morning.

Ladies European Tour

At age 16 Lexi Thompson became the youngest professional winner ever on the Ladies European Tour at the Omega Ladies Dubai Masters.

Thompson is four months older than Amy Yang was when she won the ANZ Ladies Masters in 2006.

The victory comes three months after Thompson won the Navistar LPGA Classic on the LPGA Tour.

Thompson shot 67 in the final round to complete a fifteen under par total.  That put her four strokes clear of second place finisher Lee-Anne Pace of South Africa.

It was a return visit to Dubai for Thompson who played on a sponsor’s invite in 2010 and finished in 22nd place.

She was quite excited to make a triumphant return.  “It feels amazing. I feel really honoured that they invited me back and grateful to be here. I’ve been working on my game really hard and it’s paid off. I’m going to continue working hard and just trying to improve every tournament.”
