Westbrook GC Loses Barn To Fire

As we reported at just after 9 A.M. this morning via our Twitter stream, a fire broke out early in the day Saturday at the Westbrook Golf Club in the west end of Kingston, Ontario.

Real estate agent Kenneth Thompson was on his way to his Napanee Exit Realty office via Highway 401 (the golf club runs parallel to the roadway) when he spotted the blaze from the roadway and alerted Flagstick.  By that time the Kingston Fire Department was already on scene.

The fire, centered in a barn used to store equipment and located just across the parking from the clubhouse, sent plumes of smoke high into the morning air.  The cloud was visible 10 kilometres away on the opposite side of the city.

The barn, which apparently was the winter home to the club’s fleet of 40+ power carts, members golf clubs, and other equipment, was completely destroyed.

The cause of the fire is not known and it under investigation.

We will follow up with any available details and reconstruction plans once we have a chance to speak with the club’s management.
