Later this month we will officially know the name of the person who will lead the International Team as Captain at the 2024 Presidents Cup. The world-class event is scheduled to be held at the Royal Montreal Golf Club on September 24-29. 2024
That was the same site where the matches were previously held in 2007.
The United States Team prevailed that week by a score of 19.5 to 14.5 but the result was overshadowed by the singles victory of Canada’s Mike Weir over Tiger Woods on the final day.
Weir would compete in five Presidents Cups, with a 13-9-2 record and has now been a Captain’s Assistant three times, including the most recent competition at Quail Hollow this year.
It’s hardly a surprise that he is a shoe-in to be named as the 2024 International Team President’s Cup Captain, which will be made official on November 30th when the Captain is named at an event in Montreal at the Bell Centre. Media were notified of the announcement event today, Tuesday, November 22.
Weir, originally from Bright’s Grove, Ontario and now a winner on the PGA TOUR Champions, has not been shy about what the Presidents Cup matches have meant to him in context of his legacy.
He stated earlier this year, “When I think of highlights in my career that really stand out to me, the Presidents Cup always makes the top of the list.”
