The decorated golf career of Canada’s Alena Sharp has another addition, this time a bronze medal from the 2023 Pan American games.

The 42-year-old put together rounds of 67-73-70-71 for a seven-under par total, enough to secure third place at the competition in Santiago, Chile. Sharp, who earned her way to the LPGA TOUR in 2005 and was a winner on the Epson Tour this season, finished a stroke ahead of Valery Plata of Colombia to earn the bronze medal outright.

The silver medal went to Maria Uribe of Colombia (-10), while Sofia Garcia of Paraguay took the gold medal by finishing at -14 for the week.

“I’m kind of shocked a little bit; I figured I was going to be in a playoff. I had a lot of good luck this week; I’m floored and to the moon to take home a medal for Canada. I’ve played two Olympics and this and it’s nice to walk away with a medal,” she shared with Golf Canada.

Selena Costabile was also competing in Chile for Canada on the women’s side of the draw. The Thornhill, Ontario golfer finished in a tie for 18th place.

In the men’s draw, Canada’s Etienne Papineau (Quebec), the day one leader, had a chance to medal coming into the final round but fell just one stroke short. His -16 total for the week put him in a share of fourth place at Prince of Wales Country Club. The gold medal went to Abraham Ancer of Mexico, followed by Sebastian Munoz of Colombia, and then Dylan Menante of the USA.

Myles Creighton of Nova Scotia, also in the field for Canada, tied for 11th, at -8.
