Forty-five of the top players from the Ottawa Valley Golf Association qualified to play in the season-sending OVGA Cup competition held on Monday, September 11 at the Ottawa Hunt & Golf Club.
Fifteen players each qualified from their seasons of play in the Women’s, Men’s, and Senior Men’s Divisions and enjoyed an 18 hole round at one the National capital Region’s Finest Clubs in a chase for the OVGA Cup titles. The day also determined the final standings for the 2023 OVGA Order of Merit.
In the Women’s competition it was Lise Jubinville of the Hylands Golf Club who posted the low round of the day, a 78, to win the OVGA Cup title for the second consecutive year. It also boosted her to the Order of Merit title for the 5th straight year.
In the Senior Men’s category it was Dave Ross of the host course who turned in a score of 71 to best Tom Henderson (Smiths Falls G&CC) by a single shot. Henderson’s consolation was still being named the Senior men’s Order of Merit Winner for 2023.
In the last group to finish the day were the players in the Men’s Division with junior Rowan MacDonald of The Royal Ottawa Golf Club touring the course in 71 strokes to beat out Bowie Abbis-Mills (Gatineau GC) by two for the win. Brad Goodman (Greensmere G&CC), who was part of a three-way tie for third place with Rick Latreille (Glengarry G&CC) and Dwight Reinhart (Ottawa Hunt & Golf Club) earned enough points to secure the year-long Order of Merit title. It was a repeat of the top spot that he also earned in 2022.
