Isaiah Ibit of Ottawa, recently signed with Kent State

The annual Ottawa Sports Awards recently named their 2023 winners, recognizing 67 individuals and 47 championship-winning teams.

Named as the 2023 Golfer of the Year was Isaiah Ibit of Orleans.

The seventeen-year member of the Camelot Golf and Country Club had a stellar past season that saw him jump to the top of the rankings for U19 Boys in Ontario.

Ibit, now a member of Team Canada NextGen after two years as a team Ontario member, earned his spot on the 2024 squad after a strong tie for 2nd place finish at the selection camp with a three-day total of five under par.

This all came after strong play through a busy schedule in 2023 that included victories at the Ontario Junior Players Invitational, the Golf Canada NextGen Ontario Championship, and the Golf Ontario Spring Classic.

He also posted 4th place finishes at both the Ontario Junior Boys’ Championship and Ontario Men’s Amateur Championship and won a second consecutive National Capital Secondary School Athletic Association Boys Golf Championship.

He also recorded two top-ten finishes at American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) and events and signed a National Letter of Intent to attend the noted golf program at Kent State in Ohio.

He is now off to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina to compete at the Dustin Johnson World Junior Golf Championship starting on March 1.
