Ottawa Hunt & Golf Club Appoints New General Manager/COO and Head Professional

The Ottawa Hunt & Golf Club has announced several key personnel changes, but they involve some already familiar faces.

The club was facing a gap in their staffing when it became known in the Fall that the Hillsdale Golf Club & Country Club in Mirabel, Quebec had hired away their General Manager and Chief Operating Officer, Guy Provost. What remained to be known was who would be filling that role.

Over the weekend that question was resolved as the National Capital club, one of the oldest and most prestigious in the region, announced that Head Professional Marc Peterson would be shifting upward within the club to take on the GM/COO job. Subsequently, Associate Professional Tara McInroy has been promoted into the Head Professional position.

“I’m so privileged to be awarded this opportunity,” Peterson shared in an exchange with Flagstick.com.

Peterson has been an award-winning professional throughout his career as a PGA of Canada Professional. His achievements date back to 1990 when he was named the Harold Blackman Award Assistant Professional of the Year for the PGA of Canada – Ottawa Zone, and his career has brought five more zone awards in the years to follow.

Marc joined the PGA in 1986 at the Kingsway Parc Golf Club and went on to found the Ottawa Athletic Club (OAC) Golf School in 1996.

After a very successful stint as Head Professional at the Rivermead Golf Club, Marc returned to the OAC as their General Manager in 2007. He joined the Ottawa Hunt & Golf Club staff as the Head Professional in February, 2022.

“When I took the position of Head Professional a couple of years ago, I can honestly say that I was hoping that our previous GM (Guy Prevost) was going to be in that position until I was ready to retire – Guy and I had such a great relationship. But when this opportunity was presented to me, I simply could not pass it up. I get the opportunity to work in the golf business, bring the knowledge and skills I acquired at the OAC (Ottawa Athletic Club), and continue to follow my passion at the Hunt.”

Last Fall, when Peterson was named the winner of the PGA of Ottawa Retailer of The Year, he gave much of the credit to then Associate Professional Tara McInroy for the recognition. McInroy joined the club in 2020 after a career path that included stints at Black Bear Ridge, Lambton Golf & Country Club, Oakdale Golf & Country Club, and Garrison Golf & Curling Club.

With his ascension to a new position at Ottawa Hunt & Golf Club, Peterson says there was a great choice within the staff to fill his previous job.

“I am also excited to have Tara step in the position of Head Professional, we work so well together,” shared Peterson. “Tara has been an integral part of my team in the golf shop for the last two years and is very deserving of this opportunity. Outstanding Member Experience is who we are, and I am confident that with the team we have in place at the club, we will continue deliver.”

The Ottawa Hunt & Golf Club dates back to 1908 and McInroy becomes their first female Head Professional.

Of note, the three most historical private golf clubs in the National Capital region are the The Royal Ottawa Golf Club, the Ottawa Hunt & Golf Club, and Rivermead Golf Club. Two of those three clubs now have female Head Professionals. Sarah-Andrea Landry is the current Head Professional at Rivermead Golf Club.
