Product Watch: Callaway Reveals Next Generation Apex UW Utility

A couple of years ago, Callaway Golf dug into a very specific club category with the introduction of the Apex UW Utility. It was meant for better players who wanted the benefit of a club that was easy to launch from long distance (like a fairway club), but had less draw bias than most hybrid club on the market. It was born from request on tour.

While a limit market club, it found a niche, and as such, in convert with the reveal of the 2024 Apex Series of irons, a new version of the Apex UW has arrived.

The company touts this club as an ideal solution for confident tee shots to tight landing areas, out of the fairway for approaches into par 5s, or use from the rough.

The look of the club is now familiar, with a profile like a small fairway wood. And just like the look the shaft length also finds a common ground between a hybrid and a fairway, to promote more efficient ball strike.

Much like the “JailBreak” configuration found in the Callaway driver and fairways, the UW has a body strengthening structure, the A.I.=designed “Batwing” that works in concert with the C300 maraging steel face cup to provide high ball speeds.

Those familiar with the first-generation UW will note a new look on the bottom of the club. The “Cutwave Pro Sole” streamlines the shape to help the head have more efficient entry and exit interaction with the turf.

Delivering a high launch and the steeper landing angles that help a ball stop faster on the greens, the centre of gravity is positioned neutrally to eliminate draw bias – a better player preference.

As with the 1st generation, look for the Callaway UW in the bags of tour players, and with those seeking its characteristics able to purchase at pre-sale on August 18, with full retail allocation on September 8. Retail pricing is $409.99 (CDN).
