Product Watch: Hot Pants!

During some times of the golf year, a little extra warmth is required. For most golfers the Spring and Fall golf season will see them layering on extra clothing, mostly on their upper bodies, in an attempt to keep their body temperature at a reasonable level. In extreme cases we see golfers resort to extra lower body garments, but traditionally that has meant just donning rain pants to help break the wind and provide another layer of protection.

Unfortunately, most rain pants are bulky, and add their own brand of discomfort.

But, there are solutions. In fact, a number of golf companies are now producing lined pants or rain paints that can provide a warm single layer, without the need for the bulk of double layering.

Here are four options:

FootJoy ThermoSeries Pants

Available in waist sizes of 30″ to 40″, the FootJoy ThermoSeries pants are as stylish as they are functional. Nobody will guess that you are wearing a warm weather pant when they see you on the course but you’ll be comfortable while they shiver. Part of a wider collection of products to keep your game hot while the temperatures drop. Navy colour option in Canada.

Adidas FrostGuard Pants

Definitely designed for when the temperatures really drop, the fleece-lined adidas Frostguard Pants can be worn over another pair of pants or shorts, or can be worn on their own.

With a jogger-type styling they also match up nicely with high top shoes, to make your outfit extra protective against the elements. Very comfortable with a flexible waistband for maximum freedom in the swing.

Matching FrostGuard jacket is also available.

PING SensorDry 2.5 Graphene Pant

Intended to be a pant worn over shorts or golf pants, we are aware of golfers who have worn the PING SensorDry 2.5 Graphene Pant as a single layer and have shared that they were more than suitable for the purpose.

These lightweight pants use a graphene print on the inside to help keep you warm yet still be breathable. They sport an adjustable waist and zip-leg openings and are offered in two colour-ways, black and grey.

Galway Bay Lined Rain Pants

We may as well go ahead and call Galway Bay the pioneer in this category. Now lighter weight than ever, the Galway Bay Lined Rain Pants has been around for years now and likely opened up the market for others to follow.

Available in both sized and unhemmed options for a more exact fit, not only are they warm (recommended down to -1 Celsius) but they repel rain through the use of proprietary Hydro-Flex 32 fabric.

They feature extra deep pockets for more storage and the back pocket is large enough for a scorecard (to keep dry.)
