It has been the launching ground of many of Canada’s top professionals and amateurs. The Canadian Junior Girls’ Golf Championship comes to the National Capital Region this week. The host club is familiar ground for elite young golfers, The Marshes Golf Club in Kanata has previously hosted two World Junior Girls’ Golf Championships. It’s Robert Trent Jones II design is a perfect host for aggressive golfers with its enticing mix of an equal number of par three, par four, and par five holes.
Through the years, since it was first conducted in 1955 as the CLGA National Junior Championship, a parade of well-known players have made their mark in this event, for some the first time at a national level.
Among the notable past Canadian winners are standouts like major winner Sandra Post (3x), LPGA players Alena Sharp and Maude-Aimée LeBlanc, and 11-time LPGA TOUR winner Brooke Henderson. Canadian National Women’s Team Coach Salimah Mussani picked up two titles whole Heather Kuzmich holds the record with four victories, earned consecutively from 1981 to 1984.
Official rounds get underway on Tuesday, July 26 with 72 holes scheduled to be completed on Friday, July 27.
Spectators are encouraged to attend and there is no charge.
And who knows, years from now, when some of these players move on the success at a higher level, you can say you saw them as a junior golfer.
