The Weekend Wrap – Canadian Touring Pros Edition

It was a busy week on the pro tours with plenty of Canadians in action and even contending at various points of their events. Here is a quick summary of the highlights.

LPGA Tour Drive On Championship

In the first start of her second season on the LPGA Tour, London, Ontario Maddie Szeryk showed that she is ready for the season ahead. Szeryk was a co-leader after 36 holes and despite not being able to stay at the top, had a quality beginning to her campaign.

Rounds of 67-65-71, and 69 gave her a -16 total, the best she has ever posted on the big tour. She finished in a tie for 7th, her first top-ten finish in her short LPGA career.

Maude-Aimee Leblanc tied for 48th.

PGA TOUR – WGC Dell Technologies Match Play

Dundas, Ontario’s Mackenzie Hughes recorded his 2nd top-ten of the season at the Austin Country Club, his first since his victory at the Sanderson Farms Championship in the final.

Hughes made his way into the top 8 of the match play event but lost his match in the quarter-finals to Sam Burns, the eventual tournament winner. He earned $645,000 for the placing.

He was the only Canadian to make it to the knockout portion of the tournament.

PGA TOUR Corales Puntacana Championship

In the PGA TOUR’s alternate field event in the Dominican Republic, two Canadians made it to the weekend of play. Michael Gligc ultimately finished in a tie for 68th at +2 overall, while Taylor Pendrith was one stroke back of him to tie for 70th.

Korn Ferry Tour Club Car Championship

Roger Sloan was looking good after a second round of the Korn Ferry Tour event in Savannah, Georgia, sitting near the top of the leaderboard. Unfortunately, he could not maintain the pace over the final 36 holes, ending the week in a tie for 31st.

Ben Silverman, already a winner on the tour in 2023, posted a -6 total to earn a share of 48th place.

Epson Tour IOA Championship

The third event of the year on the Epson Tour found Thornhill, Ontario’s Selena Costabile finishing in a tie for 9th after rounds of 67-70-73. It is the third top-ten of her career on the circuit and is a nice bounce-back after missing the 1st two cuts of the season.

Sarah-Eve Rheaume of Quebec tied for 49th

DP World Tour Johnsson Workwear Open

In Johannesburg, South Africa, Manitoba’s Aaron Cockerill finished nicely with a 65 (-7) on Sunday to ultimately take his place in a share of 13th. He picked up almost 21,000 Euros as a result.

PGA Tour Latinoamerica Roberto de Vicenzo Memorial

Rycroft, Alberta’s Max Sekulic is coming into his own. The 23-year-old pro held the lead for a time during the final round of the PGA TOUR LA event in Argentina but eventually had to settle for a tie for 4th place.

Fellow Canada Myles Creighton of Digby, Nova Scotia continued his high level of play on the circuit with a tie for 22nd.

Champions Tour The Galleri Classic

The older set for the male pros teed it up at Missions Hills Country Club this week, the former long-time home of the LPGA’s opening major of the season.

It was a less than remarkable week for the Canadians, with Mike Weir finishing is a share of 35th after being in the top ten after round one of three.

Stephen Ames tied for 62nd.
