Ottawa Valley Golf Association Women’s Intersectionals were played on Sunday, July 16th at host golf clubs throughout the Ottawa Valley.

Since the origin of the OVGA Women’s Intersectionals in 1997, only women’s teams from Madawaska (2), Brockville (4), Kanata (4), Rideau View (2), Rivermead (3), Carleton (5), Royal Ottawa (2), Camelot (2) and Ottawa Hunt (1) have won the “A” Division Trophy sponsored currently by Golf-O-Max Ottawa.

At the OVGA “A” Division Intersectionals held at the Royal Ottawa Golf Club in Gatineau, Quebec, the Ottawa Hunt & Golf Club Women were able to add their name to that list for a second time. But the win didn’t come easy as they were in stiff competition with the Royal Ottawa Golf Club Team throughout the afternoon.

The final standings in “A” Division were Ottawa Hunt (32), Royal Ottawa (25), Rivermead (14) and Rideau View (13). Rideau View moves down to “B” Division at Carleton in 2024 while Hylands moves up to “A” Division at the Ottawa Hunt & Golf Club with Royal Ottawa and Rivermead.

Members of the winning Ottawa Hunt & Golf Club Women’s Team were Debby Christie, Jenna Collins, Maureen Donnelly, Carla Jensen, Alison McGuire, Jill O’Neill, Claire Stoney and Haley Yerxa.

Six point winners from the Ottawa Hunt & Golf Club were Jenna Collins, Alison McGuire, Claire Stoney and Haley Yerxa while Sophie Foulds and Sheila McKeen contributed six points each for the Royal Ottawa.

It was also a special day for Claire Stoney from the Ottawa Hunt & Golf Club as she scored her first hole-in-one on the par three, sixth hole measuring 130 yards with a pitching wedge. Congratulations Claire.

The future of women’s golf looks pretty secure at the four Clubs playing in the “A” Division of the OVGA Women’s Intersectionals with the number of young ladies coming out of the junior ranks and stepping in and assisting their Club teams.

Intersectional players at the Royal Ottawa were united in their praise of the course conditions in spite of the soggy fairways created by an early morning storm that rolled through the Ottawa Valley. They also praised the work of Paul Carrothers and his pro shop team as well as the food and beverage team at the Royal Ottawa.

Congratulations to all of the Women competitors throughout the Ottawa Valley who played for their Club Teams.
