OVGA Hosts Spring Scramble at The Meadows G&CC

The OVGA Spring Scramble was held on Friday, May 19, 2023 at The Meadows Golf & Country Club for the third year. This event, the OVGA’s adult tournament season opener, was created in 2020 as a fun scramble for any level of golfer. We had a full field with 18 women’s teams, 28 men’s teams and 16 mixed teams. The course was in great shape and the staff very friendly and helpful.

The wind challenged the best of players, and after dusk the mosquitoes became vicious! Despite Mother Nature, fun was had by all. Players were reacquainted with their friends from other clubs, and new friends were made.

We had a few repeat winners from last year. The women’s team of Diane Dolan (Hylands Golf Club) and Carole Letendre (Club de golf Cowansville) took first place in both the gross and net divisions, following on their win in the net division in 2022. Asked for their secret in being able to score well together, their comments were, “We compliment each other’s game and we’ve been playing together for over 20 years.”  Now, that’s a long golfing friendship!

The mixed team of Karine Desroches and Dominic Boucher (Club de golf Le Triangle d’Or) won for the second time in a row with an impressive score of 68. Asked for their secret in winning, Dominic responded, “She drives the ball amazingly” and Karine said, “His short game is spectacular”. They play a lot of golf together.

The winners of the men’s team kept it in the family. Rick St Denis (Club de golf Les Vieux Moulins) is no stranger to winning OVGA events, as he has been playing in them for close to 60 years, and his name is engraved on many OVGA trophies. He is delighted that his 17-year-old grandson, Gabriel Comtois, also has a love of the game … and not only that, Gabriel is a scratch golfer! They shot a very impressive 64.

Rick and Gabriel tied Thommy-lee Lussier and Andy Cournoyer for the men’s net prize, and Richard Lessard and Stephanie Lemaire (Cedarhill Golf & Country Club) won the mixed net for the second year in a row.
