Young Golfers Shine at Loyalist Junior Showcase

The Loyalist Country Club in Bath, Ontario, located just west of Kingston, held its Loyalist Junior Showcase tournament this past weekend. By many metrics it was the best one to date.

After some late withdrawals 59 players ended up taking part , with seven divisions seeing some very competitive play, while others golfers learned valuable lessons from their first tournament experience.

The event featured support from PING, TaylorMade, and local sponsor MacDougall Insurance, which allowed the event to be a low-cost experience for the players and their families compared to many other tournaments. For a $100 entry fee the players enjoyed a gift bag, a practice round, two rounds of competition, and a light lunch each day. The youngest players also had the support of local volunteers to assist with scoring and possible rules situations.

Fortunately for all involved, the weather held throughout the weekend and all were able to finish up 36 holes on time and on a golf course in great shape for this early in the season.

We witnessed some impressive shot making during our time on the grounds, including some by the two players who posted the lowest rounds of the weekend. Kaeleigh Chung of the Durham region kicked off her successful but for the Girls’ U13 title with a striped tee shots, while Colton Cheeseman of Hamilton, Ontario was rolling in putts with ease, closing with a 65 on Sunday to take the U17 Boys’ title.

Other winners on the weekend were Jack Baycetich (U13 Boys), Zach Lederer (U15 Boys), Chloe Hassberger (U15 Girls), Adrianna Salatila (U17 Girls) and William Belanger (U19 Boys).
