The team from the Renfrew Golf Club overcame a nine stroke deficit after round one to win the 94th edition of the Gordon Cup on Sunday, September 10, 2023 on home turf.

After day one, the defending champions from the Pembroke Golf Club held the lead in the annual competition founded in 1930 that pits men’s team from Upper Ottawa Valley golf clubs against each other.

Round one saw Jonah O’Connor of the Renfrew Golf Club lead the scoring with a tally of 69, but it was a cumulative score of 937 to take the lead.

The format, for those unfamiliar, sees fourteen players represent each club (Mississippi, Renfrew, Pembroke, Sand Point, and Deep River), with the lowest 12 scores in stroke play counting each day.

The Renfrew team smashed past their first day tally in the final round, going 26 shots better to post a 920. That was the best second round by 17 shots, a mark that was set by Sand Point.

Team Pembroke could only muster a team score of 945 on day two, leaving them with a 1882 total. That was eclipsed by Team Renfrew by sixteen shots, lead by O’Connor with a 70, and scores of 71 each by Ryan Boudreau and Stephane Pare.

This marks the 37th time Renfrew Golf Club has won the title, putting them seven ahead of Pembroke in the all-time totals.

The Sand Point Golf Club in Braeside will host in 2024.
