The Black Bear Ridge Golf Course was the site of the 7th Quinte Invitational on the September 10/11 weekend.

A field of sixty golfers faced the highly rated golf course, and also had to deal with heavy winds during the second and final round.

Superintendent Greg Fach and his crew had the course in exceptional shape and the players, some who came from as far as Florida to compete, did their best to take advantage of them.

Round one saw two players jump into the lead. Andrew Crampton of Peterborough and Ryan Sevigny of Ottawa both navigated the course in just 70 strokes, 2 under par. They would make up the final group on Sunday along with Jeff Simpson of Cataraqui who had finished the day at 71.

Trailing all of them was Jeff Crowe of London who is a familiar face in Eastern Ontario as a former member and club champion at both Cataraqui G&CC in Kingston and Camelot Golf & CC in Ottawa.

Crowe was two strokes back to start the last eighteen holes but played steady golf in the adverse conditions during the final lap of the course. He ramped it up on the last two holes, recording back-to-back birdies to secure the win by a single stroke over James Rim of Ajax.

“Extremely happy and proud to have won the Quinte Regional invitational,” Crowe noted on social media. Greg Knudsen and everyone involved made this a fantastic event, strong field and extremely fun.”

Simon Reyers of the Brampton Golf Club finished in third.

Manny Serrano, of Kawartha Golf & Country Club finished as the first low net.

Event organizers wanted to thank Black Bear Ridge along with sponsors CIBC Wood Gundy (Greg Knudsen), Pretsell Davies Lawyers (Mike Pretsell), Montgomery Fleet Services (Cecil Montgomery), Williams Hotels (Ryan Williams) and Boston Pizza (Mitch Panciuk).

Closest to Hole prizes were donated by Dr. Ryan Fitzpatrick (Fitzpatrick Weido Optometrist).

Diane Vermeersch and Mary Ellen Edwards were highly appreciated as the scorekeepers for the weekend.
