The Stanley Thompson Society was founded in 1998 and is dedicated to the celebration and preservation of the legacy of Canada’s iconic golf course architect, Stanley Thompson. To this purpose, the Society is has announced its’ 2024 Experience Stanley event schedule. This is a milestone year for the Stanley Thompson Society – with events being hosted in three provinces, truly representing the diversity and genius of Stanley’s portfolio of courses.

A core pillar of the Society’s mandate is to facilitate opportunities for Society members to experience Stanley Thompson courses across Canada. The memorable line-up of courses that they are visiting this year will provide exceptional experiences for the members to come together and celebrate Stanley’s lasting legacy in Canadian golf.

The 2024 event series will begin on Monday May 13th at Islington Golf Club in Toronto, one of Stanley’s early designs. A few weeks later on Monday June 3rd they will be travelling west to Royal Mayfair Golf Club in Edmonton acknowledging this its centenary anniversary.

Later in the summer on August 15th the Society will be part of the Ladies’ Golf Club of Toronto also celebrating their 100th anniversary. “We are honoured and excited to recognize Stanley’s role in the development of a golf course for women by a woman.”

“2024 is an exciting time to visit and play at Ladies’. They are in the midst of making several improvements to the course and clubhouse. while maintaining the integrity in which Ada Mackenzie and Stanley Thompson envisioned. This gem is a joy to play and I always look forward to returning,” says 8-time LPGA Champion and Honorary member at Ladies’ Club of Toronto, Sandra Post C.M.

On September 8th the Society will be on the east coast at the historic Cape Breton Highlands Links. This represents the first time the Society will be hosting an Eastern Classic event. This will be an opportunity for members to play one of Stanley’s ‘big 5’ and what is considered to be one of Stanley Thompson’s most influential designs – his “mountains and ocean course”.

“It is with great anticipation that we tee it up at Highlands Links, universally acknowledged as the master stroke of Stanley’s Eastern Canada design opus,” says Ron Gable, Stanley Thompson Society Board Chair.

The support and demand for the Society’s event series continues to grow, thanks to the passion of the membership for celebrating Stanley’s legacy. These events are designed to provide members the opportunity to experience Stanley’s work alongside like-minded Stanley Thompson fans. Each event features a guest speaker to further their collective understanding of the impact and influence of Stanley Thompson.

Summing up the importance of the Events, Ron Gable added, “The Society’s purpose, in part, is to preserve the legacy of Stanley Thompson. There is no greater way to achieve this than to experience his genius firsthand and then share it with others.”
