Brooke Henderson Intends to Play CME Group Tour Championship Despite Injury

Good news and bad news from the Brooke Henderson camp. The bad news is that the LPGA star from Smiths Falls, Ontario has an upper back injury. Said injury was the reason she withdrew from last week’s Pelican Women’s Championship prior to the start of her second round. That was not revealed at the time.

Rest has been prescribed and Brooke says she will do anything she has to medically in the off-season to deal with it, but in the mean-time she will make her best effort to play this week at the LPGA’s season-ending CME Group TOUR Championship.

“After withdrawing from last week’s event due to an injury in my upper back, it was recommended that I rest as much as possible coming into the week,” Henderson shared in a statement “While I plan to address any medical concerns and recover fully in the off season, I am trying to do everything I can to compete this week. I appreciate all of the support.”

Henderson, as the #4 player in the Race to the CME Globe rankings, is scheduled to be part of the featured groupings this week in Naples, Florida. She is paired with good friend Minjee Lee for the two opening rounds.

She is also scheduled to play the official pro-am on Wednesday.

In 21 starts so far this year, Henderson has nine top-ten finishes including two wins – at the ShopRite LPGA Classic presented by Acer, and her second major victory, at the Amundi Evian Championship.

Players this week are chasing a portion of a $7 million dollar purse, with a record $2 million going to thee winner.
