Just a couple rambling notes as I sit watching the final round of the Sony Open in Hawaii and continue preparations for attending the 2014 PGA Merchandise Show that starts in just over a week.

It appears the end of 2013 rumours of Mike Weir splitting with coach and former PGA TOUR player Grant Waite are true.

Waite noted on his Twitter account on Saturday night that his coaching relationship with Weir ended late last year.  “Mike decided to go in another direction after Mayakoba. I appreciate the time we spent together over the year and half we worked,” Waite tweeted.

Weir’s game appeared to progress quite well under the tutelage of Waite but there is no word as to why the decision was made.  It was soon after Weir made the move to his new coach in 2012 that he asserted to the media that his days of moving from coach to coach were over.

That may be true as I have yet to hear who Weir has moved on to, if anyone.

It’s likely Weir has been well armed with information from Waite, who works heavily with TrackMan in his swing analysis, and feels prepared to set out on his own with that in his quiver.

Weir is playing on the PGA TOUR this season using the last of his all-time money list exemptions.

He missed the cut at the Sony Open in Hawaii this week.

It looks like golf equipment manufacturers are ramping up for the PGA Merchandise Show in more than a few ways.  TaylorMade appears to have opened a Twitter account specifically for the show.  You can follow it @TMAGatPGAShow

I had the opportunity to play a little simulator golf on Sunday. Eighteen indoor holes at ACCRA Golf Shafts headquarters was not the best test for new golf shoes but it certainly helped shape a few impressions.  The shoes in question?  The new FootJoy DNA that will make their official public debut this week.  You’ll be able to get more info on Wednesday on our Equipment Blog.
