Augusta James will have to look to the week ahead to add another win to her already impressive resume.  The 18 year-old from Bath, Ontario had her charge at the 2011 CN Future Links Pacific Championship snubbed out by weather that cancelled the final round on Sunday, May 15th.

James had posted a score of 72 in her second round to move into a share of 8th place and within striking distance of 36-hole leader Jisoo Keel of British Columbia.

Ultimately it was Keel and Wilkson Bateman of Alberta who won their respective Girls’ and Boys’ Divisions at the championship being played over the Arbutus Ridge Golf Club in Cobble Hill, British Columbia.

A rain system repeatedly soaked the Cobble Hill area and delayed the start of Sunday’s final round.  As course conditions became unplayable, Golf Canada tournament officials made the decision to cancel Sunday’s final round and crown Bateman and Keel the 36-hole champions.

“We started with a two hour delay from the first 7 a.m. tee-times and within an hour and 15 minutes it was apparent that the rain was not going to let up,” said Golf Canada Tournament Director Cameron Crawford. “Because of the rain and imminent thunderstorms, the tournament committee unanimously decided it was in the best interest of player safety that the final round be cancelled.”

A runner-up at last year’s CN Future Links Pacific Championship and current Team Canada Development Squad member, Bateman, 17, held the clubhouse lead following a 4-under par 66 in Saturday’s second round. Bateman finished with a two-day score of 3-under par 137 (71-66), good for a 3-stroke victory.

Kevin Kwon of Pitts Meadows, B.C. and Matt Williams of Calgary shared runner up honors at even par (140).  Gregory Palmer of Port Alberni B.C. finished fourth at 1-over (141)while Team Canada Development Squad member Richard Jung of Toronto and Curtis Chan of Richmond, B.C. round out the top-five at 2-over (142).

In the Junior Girls division, Keel, 15, carded a 1-under 141 (71-70) over 36 holes to finish with a 5-shot victory over Josee Doyon, 18, of St-Georges-de-Beauce, Que. (146).

Grace Chua of White Rock, B.C. was third at 7-over (149) while Team Canada’s Leilanie Kim, 18, and Taylor Kim, 16, both of Surrey, B.C., finished the tournament tied for fourth with Coquitlam, B.C. natives SooBin Kim and Anica Yoo at 8-over (150).

With her victory, Keel earns an exemption into the 2011 Royale Cup Canadian Junior Girls Championship, August 1-5,2011 at QGolf Club in Richmond, B.C. and an exemption into a future CN Canadian Women’s Tour event.  As well, Bateman and the top six competitors in the junior boys division earn exemptions into the 2011 Canadian Junior Boys Championship, August 1-5 at Morgan Creek Golf Course in South Surrey, B.C.

Augusta James, a member of the National Development Team, will join her fellow National Team Program golfers this week in Squamish, B.C. for the first CN Canadian Women’s Tour event of the year.

The 36 hole tournament will see the players vie for a $10,000 first place prize with tournament rounds starting on Tuesday and culminating on Wednesday.
