Brooke Henderson Continues Strong Pace, Ties for 3rd Place at HSBC Women’s World Championship

Australia’s Hannah Green may have captured the title at the HSBC Women’s World Championship in Singapore on Sunday, but Canada’s Brooke Henderson was not far behind.

Green, with Kingston, Ontario’s Nate Blasko by her side as caddy, birdied the last hole to post -13 and slip past Celine Boutier for her 4th LPGA title, while Henderson ended the week in Malaysia at -9.

Rounds of 76-66-70-68 gave Smiths Falls’ Henderson a share of third place with three other golfers. Her final round included birdies on five of her last eleven holes that pushed her up the standings.

Despite a bogey on the last, a trio of birdies were helpful for Henderson who earned $89,471 for the showing after closing the final nine holes in a score of 33 (-3).

“You know the back nine was fun, especially the long birdie putt on 15, followed up with a birdie on 16 and 17,” shared Henderson afterward. “So it was really fun and it was really nice to climb the leaderboard like that. Unfortunately, dropped a shot on 18. It was a difficult hole today. But overall really happy with how the week went and I feel like I’m going to take a lot of momentum and a lot of confidence moving forward.”

Henderson, who was tied for 9th headed into the round was trying to make a push all day to make up a five shot deficit on the overnight leader.

“I was keeping an eye on it pretty much all day trying to make a bit of a climb. It was a late climb but I’m glad I did it.”

There was no trophy for Brooke this week, but it is another sign that her game is in a good spot as she looks to earn her 14th LPGA title. She already has three-top finishes in four starts this year, just one less that she had all year in 2023. She now has 76 in her LPGA career.

“It’s exciting to come out of the gate pretty strong. I love Top 10’s and I’m always trying to get a bunch. Last year didn’t get a whole lot, so this year trying to make up for it.

It’s nice to get three pretty quickly to start the season and there’s lots of golf left to be played. I feel like my game is right there. Just need a couple breaks, and I’ll see what happens.”

Henderson is not in the field for next week’s LPGA event in China, but will return to action on March 21 for the FIR HILLS SERI PAK Championship in California, a title he won in 2021.
