Rainy weather was abundant during the commencement of QKIM’s 16th season of intersectional match play competitions. The Women’s Division led off the season and although some of the events were shortened or delayed due to poor weather, it definitely did not rain on the parade of the reigning champions from Cataraqui GCC.

Led by recently minted 2023 club champion Kiley Rodrigues, the ladies of “Cat” put on a performance for the ages by winning all their matches in Section 1, the top rung of the QKIM Women’s Division. Trillium Wood GC earned second place honours followed by Garrison GCC.

In Section 2 play at Amherstview GC, the winning team wasn’t determined until the final group of the day. In that group, Amherstview’s Alyssa Proderick won both her matches but, in nail-biting fashion, Briar Fox’s Dawn Walsh was able to deliver the necessary 2 points in her other match against Loyalist GCC to give her team a 1-point win over Amherstview GC.

Camden Braes GCC hosted Section 3, which saw a long delay to the start of the matches due to thunder and lightning storms rolling through the area. When play finally concluded, it was the women of Camden Braes who were able to catch lightning in a bottle and thunder to the top of Section 2 over Roundel Glen, The Landings and Oak Hills.

Section 4 of the Women’s Division at Garrison GCC was postponed by one week due to dangerous weather. The postponement was worth it as the matches were played under sunny skies. The sun definitely shone on the Colonnade team that went undefeated against Garrison, Picton and Oak Hills. Of particular note was the impressive QKIM debut for teenage sisters Olivia and Payton Pattison, both winning their matches for Colonnade.
