Russell Returns – Stirling, Ontario Golfer Qualifies For U.S. Adaptive Open

He’s done it again. Stirling, Ontario’s Russell Aide has qualified for the United States Golf Association’s Adaptive Open for the second year in a row.

The towering teen (he check in around 6’8″, finished 18th overall and tied for 5th in the Arm Impairment Flight at Pinehurst Resort in North Carolina in 2023 and his attempt to return to the championship was successful.

The event, which will feature a number of Canadians, will take place this year at Sand Creek Station in Newton, Kansas on July 8-10, 2024.

As a non-exempt player, Aide had to qualify for the championship and he did so on Wednesday, April 24th in New Jersey. It was a tough task with only one spot available at his qualifier, but the 16 year-old Black Bear Ridge member handled the job nicely with a sparkling score of 69 (-3).

He was interviewed after the round by the host organization of the qualifier, the Metropolitan Golf Association. You can watch the interview below.

Aide will join a number of Canadians in the field in Kansas, including Ontarian Tessa Trojan who qualified last week in Atlanta, and another Eastern Ontario golfer, Kurtis Barkley, who is exempt due to his high standings in the World Rankings.
