Serge Giroux Dream Trip Almost Underway

OTTAWA, ON – November 9, 2010 – The CPGA Ottawa Zone and The Serge Giroux Golf Dream announced today the departure on Wednesday, November 10 of Ben Delaney and Jordan Davidson and their families on the Serge Giroux Golf Dream.  Ben Delaney, 14, from Ottawa, ON and Jordan Davidson 14, from Pembroke, ON were selected for the “Dream” through Ottawa’s CHEO. Ben and Jordan will depart from Ottawa and arrive in Orlando for the dream trip of a lifetime.

Jordan was first diagnosed with brain cancer in 2009.  He just completed active treatment through Ottawa’s CHEO. Jordan is interested in golf and looks forward to seeing the Children’s Miracle Network Classic and seeing the Disney theme parks.

Ben was diagnosed with Osteogenic Sarcoma in 2008 – the same cancer as Canadian hero, Terry Fox.  Ben now wears a prosthetic leg from the knee down. He just completed active treatment, but returns to CHEO regularly.  Ben loves all sports and played competitive hockey before his challenge.

Ben and Jordan were chosen by the group at CHEO and the Golf Dream Classic Committee because of their determination and inspiring spirit while battling their illnesses.  Both also haven interest in the game of golf and seeing a PGA Tour event.

Ben, Jordan and their families will participate in a “dream-like” itinerary that includes, Disney theme parks, meeting Cirque du Soleil acrobats and seeing the La Nouba show, the Children’s Miracle Network Classic featuring “Golf Mania” and special dinners at theme parks.

The families will depart at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday direct from Ottawa to Orlando via Westjet. They will be accompanied by a “support team” from Ottawa that includes primary corporate supporter Randy Graham, Golf Dream Director John Haime, PGA of Ottawa President Dale Pedersen and Kristen Thompson – Golf Dream supporter.

The event is named after the event’s first recipient in 2001, Serge Giroux.  Serge and his family visited the Disney Classic in October 2001.  Serge passed away from complications with his illness in January 2002.  His name was chosen to title the event because of his grace, humour and passion for life under very difficult circumstances.
