The Flagstick.com Players Tour heads to The Marshes Golf Club in Kanata on August 26th and 27th with Graham Gunn trying to complete an amazing 2012 run.
Gunn will try and capture the PGA of Ottawa Titleist/FootJoy Zone Championship to give him a full sweep of the major Zone events for the season. In June he won the Spring Open at Hawkesbury and followed it up in July with a Summer Open win at Mountain Creek Golf Course.
A win would also give Gunn a title defence as he was the Zone Champion for a record 5th time in 2011. No other player has won more championships in the 37 year history of the Ottawa Valley Zone.
Golfers are also competing for Order of Merit Points which will get them into a year-end competition between the Professionals and the Assistant Professionals sponsored by PING and presented by Flagstick Golf Magazine.
In his 2011 Zone Championship win Gunn shot 68-70 at Hylands Golf Club to surge past first round leader Jonathan Schaepper of Mountain Creek.
It was enough to put him clear of Bill Keating of Camelot who eventually earned second place at 140 (69-71)
With thousands of dollars up for grabs there will be a solid field of pros battling it out for the championship at The Marshes.
In The Marshes the competitors will face a solid Robert Trent Jones designed golf course that has been the home of many high level professional and amateur tournaments. That includes the PGA of Canada Senior’s Championship and the CN Canadian Women’s Tour. The Marshes is a longer course than many that have hosted the Zone Championship so look for players with some extra length to take advantage of the many par five holes.
