Experience Leads Way At OVGA Men’s City & District Championship

Veteran players set the pace at day one of the Ottawa Valley Golf Association Men’s A Class City & District Championship on Monday.

Round one of three was played at the Kanata Golf & Country Club, a stern test that always tends to resist scoring and that was the case again on Monday.

Tom Hossfeld of Hylands and Marc Carrier of Greyhawk, both former winners of the OVGA Masters Championship, are tied for top spot after the first round with each recording matching scores of 71, equivalent to one over par on the Tom McBroom design owned by ClubLink.

To little surprise four-time defending champion Allen McGee is among those nipping at the heels of the leaders.  McGee, who spent his formative golf years at Kanata G&CC, shares second place with Kurtis Barkley of Cedar Glen with each recording scores of 72.

Peter Mayo (Rivermead) and Dan Tapp (Greyhawk) each posted 73’s to share 5th place.

Round two of the championship is slated for Renfrew Golf Club tomorrow, August 30th, starting at 8:33am.  The top 24 players plus ties will proceed to the final championship round at The Ottawa Hunt & Golf Club on Wednesday morning, August 31st.   The first tee time on Wednesday will be at 7:00 a.m.
