The historic Picton Golf Club (1907) held a notable ladies golf clinic on Monday, July 10. It was remarkable for a number of reasons.

First off, the event was in support of the Reaching For Rainbows Program. The initiative, based on Prince Edward County, is designed to support local girls aged 6-9, providing a safe space where they can build friendships and feel empowered. The activities as part of it are designed to help the girls build confidence through trying things that are new to them.

While the charity of benefit was special, so too were the instructors who were helping out the more than 30 participants. Leading the way was Sandra Post, 8-time LPGA tournament winner and major champion, and Picton’s own Casey Ward. Ward, the former junior star at the club and Ontario Mid-Amateur Women’s Champion, is now an award-winning teaching professional. The PGA of Canada member is the Director of Instruction at the Credit Valley Golf Club in Mississauga, Ontario.

Much if the day was spent on the Steven L. Ward practice facility at the club, named for Casey’s father, who was a long-time director at the course, and a renowned architect responsible for much of the course design.

“The weather was great and we had so much fun,” Sandra Post told Flagstick.com

The attendees enjoyed a full day of instruction and camaraderie.

That day’s efforts raised $1800 for Reaching for Rainbows.
