We were once again privileged to admire the junior golfing talent in the region over the past weekend with the running of the OVGA U19 Junior City & Districts held at Hylands (North) and Greensmere (Legacy). This championship goes back to 1932 for the Boys and 1962 for the Girls, with the historic trophies capturing the names of many elite junior golfers from the Ottawa Valley and Outaouais over the years.
As possibly a harbinger to what was to happen two hours later at the RBC Canadian Open, Ben Sheridan (Ottawa Hunt) rolled in an eagle putt on the 18th hole Sunday that would lead to a playoff win for the overall Junior Boys title. Sheridan put together two solid rounds of 70 and 72 for a 2-under total that matched Metcalfe’s Shane Stanley who had built up a 2-shot lead after 17 with 3 birdies on the back. The momentum carried over for Sheridan who was victorious on the first playoff hole.

In the Junior Girls competition, Isabella Ferguson (Ottawa Hunt) put together the best two rounds of the tournament (69, 72) that put her at 3-under for the championship. Ferguson had an impressive 8 birdies and an eagle over 36 holes to take the overall Girls title over Lauren Gervais (Carleton) who had 8 birdies of her own.
In the Juvenile Boys division, Bode Stephen (Cataraqui) carded a 1-under 71 on the last day for the win over Atlas Ibit (Camelot). Avery Nordman (Canadian) had 5 birdies on her first round and held on to take the Juvenile Girls title over Amelia McFarlane (Ottawa Hunt) who was making a charge with 5 birdies on the back 9 on Sunday.
